“I should see how my boys are settling in,” she smiled.
Tam nodded. “Yes, go do that,” she said, smiling. “And I’ll talk to you soon about all the other stuff that needs doing.”
She smiled and kissed Tam’s cheek. ”I’ll see you later,” she said, moving to stand.
Tam smiled, giving Hannah-Claire’s cheek a kiss in return. “See you!” she said brightly. “I’m really really glad you’re here now.”
“I’m happy to be here,” she said. ”In spite of everything.”
“Well, there won’t be any more ‘in spite of’ when we get done with the place,” Tam said, nodding emphatically. “Now, go. See your boys and get settled in.”

“Family life has just made you mean!” Tam agreed, nodding solemnly, then grinning. “So is there anything in particular you really want to see right now, or shall I let you get back to your lovely boys?”
She smiled, “I think I can figure out the place on my own.” She said. ”I’ll explore soon.”
Tam smiled. “I figured as much,” she said. “But I thought I would offer, just in case. There’s probably something productive I should be doing right now anyway,” she added with a laugh.

“Fine, fine,” she said, sighing dramatically. “You’re no fun!”
She laughed, “I know. I’m a mean old lady.” She wrinkled her nose.

“Oh, you and the logic thing,” Tam said, sighing affectedly, then laughing. “I suppose I’ll concede that point. But I’d still really prefer you not beating me up.”
“Well, none of the self help terrifying smile stuff,” she stuck out her tongue.

“Well, that’s pretty sketchy behavior,” she said, laughing. “It’s okay because they’re not here.” She shook her head. “I’m disappointed in you. I expected better.”
“You’re asking me the example I’m setting them. They’re not here to see the example.” She stuck out her tongue.

“Ow!” Tam said, laughing and rubbing the spot she’d just hit. “I forgot how mean you were.” She made a face at her sister. “And besides, what sort of example would you be setting for your children by trying to beat up their favorite aunt?” She grinned.
“They aren’t here,” she said, laughing.

She made her face, “Okay, that would make me crazy and homicidal.”
“But Cleh-cleh,” Tam said, making her eyes huge and giving her sister a creepy fake grin, “you’re a good person! And good things will happen for you!” She laughed.
She smacked Tam on the arm. ”I might be a mother now but I’m not above brawling with you.” She stuck out her tongue.

She managed to smile a bit at that. “You’re right, of course,” she said, nodding. “I just can’t help but think of all the ways everything could go wrong. I would love to think that everything will just start falling into place perfectly for us now, but … well, old habits are hard to break, I suppose.”
“We’ll have to work for this, of course. But everything will work out.” She smiled. “We’re going to have a safe place here.”
She nodded. She really wanted to believe that. “You’re right,” she said, mostly to convince herself. “It’ll be brilliant, once we’re done here.”
“Absolutely,” she wasn’t entirely convinced either. But they had to start believing it if they wanted it to happen.
Tam managed a laugh. “Maybe we ought to hire a motivational speaker as well,” she suggested. “One of those power of positive thinking assholes.” She made a face.
